Sarah and Brett

November 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sarah and Brett came to us and had already picked the Memphis Zoo as their location. They wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding where they could entertain their out-of-town family and friends in a relaxed, elegant setting.

Sarah was a true DIY bride. I had complete faith in her abilities when I received her “Save the Date.” She had made the cutest cards in the wedding colors (chocolate, banana, persimmon, and citron) with monkeys and bananas. The craftsmanship was excellent!

On one of her visits to town, we went to the zoo to discuss setup, placement, and decor. Sarah and Bret originally planned to have the ceremony right inside the gates of the zoo. As we were walking around, the bells starting going off in my head (those of you who have met me know what I am talking about). The ceremony should be in front of the zoo – not in the courtyard. That area is called “Avenue of the Animals.” We decided to have the gates draped with a citron green backdrop, complete with yellow and orange flowers. It was perfect.

Their guests enjoyed a seated four course meal with wedding cake and an ice cream sundae bar for dessert. The long banquet tables were dressed with chocolate linens, citron runners, and persimmon napkins. The centerpieces were containers wrapped in coordinating colored paper that Sarah had used to create her invitations, favors, tossing cones, placecards, menu cards, and table numbers.

Jake, of Studio J, captured the atmosphere of this wedding perfectly:

Happy Fun Drinks!

November 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

Here at Southern Event Planners, we enjoy a good drink. There’s just something about a blend of libations, shaken or stirred, being sipped from a fanciful glass that brings out the vah vah vah voom in us. The beauty of the cocktail is not just the taste (although not to be taken for granted) but we love glassware and not to mention the limitless selection of garnishes that can adorn each carefully crafted beverage. It can bring a burst of glamour to an everyday routine.

Check back often for new drink reciepes and fancy barware to bring a bit of glamour into your everyday.

In anticipation of the holiday season, we found a drink on Stirrings.comthat you’re sure to sip and say “mmmm.” It’s an Apple-Butter Martini. Here’s how to make it:

What you need:
2 parts Stirrings Apple Martini Mixer
1/2 part Stirrings Triple Sec
1/2 part Ciroc Vodka
A splash of butterscotch liquer

What you do:
Pour everything into a shaker and shake!

How to Garnish:
Rim the glass with some of the butterscoth liquer and dip it into Stirrings Apple Rimmer. You can top off the drink with a curly apple peel.

To really make the drink over the top, pour it into one of these “Tall Tinis” from Uncrate.com:

Happy Cocktail Y’all
